Biography

Holly Goodson is the interim associate dean for education and undergraduate programs in the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame, where she is also a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. A member of the Notre Dame faculty since 2000, Goodson is widely recognized for her contributions to both research and undergraduate education.

Goodson’s interdisciplinary research bridges biochemistry, molecular biology, and computational biology to explore the organization and dynamics of the microtubule cytoskeleton—a vital component of cellular structure and function. Her lab investigates how microtubules assemble and interact with other cellular components, with particular focus on microtubule plus-end tracking proteins (+TIPs) and disease-associated proteins such as Tau (linked to Alzheimer’s disease) and stathmin (linked to cancer). She also has a longstanding interest in molecular evolution, using bioinformatics and structure-function analysis to understand protein families and evolutionary processes in vitro and in silico.

A dedicated educator, Goodson has received multiple awards for excellence in undergraduate teaching, including the Thomas P. Madden Award and the Rev. Edmund P. Joyce, C.S.C. Award. She is a Fellow of the American Society for Cell Biology and has served on its national council. She earned her Ph.D. in biochemistry from Stanford University and her A.B. in molecular biology from Princeton University.
